Study Business Statistics
in Ecuador May 2011
St. Ambrose University
When traveling to another county, one gets to experience many aspects of cultures that are different from ours. Frequently, when one returns to the United States, these cultural differences are fun to talk about. However, are these differences "statistically significant?"
The goal of this course is to learn business statistics, and to apply what one learns to determine statistical differences between the United States and Ecuador. In this course, you will learn how about various descriptive statistics to describe your observations, to collect and analyze normally distributed data, to apply tests of hypothesis to one and two sample data sets, to decide if observed data is correlated to any specific cultural attributes, and to perform the business statistics calculations using MS Excel.
Students in this course will also tour a variety of service and manufacturing operations. Some of these tours will enable the students to collect additional data.
Students also participate in a service project: for example, helping a small town improve one of its trail systems.
